Foam And Fizzing

Before we slotted the mentos into the diet coke bottle we were investigating the reactions between mentos lollies and diet coke. Remember before you  drop the mentos into the fizzy drink you’ll have to put a paper so that the mentos won’t go in straight away.

The mentos pellets were plopped into the diet coke bottle. This formed a mixture with diet coke and there was a violent reaction. We could hear the fizz and bubbles. The foam erupted over the diet coke bottle. It was spinning around. The foam looked like the foam on top of a milkshake

Explanation

Mentos is porous. Pores are very small holes. When we mix the mentos lollies with the diet coke there is a new substance formed which really gives the gases bubbles and fizz. They are really called Carbon Dioxide. Next the bubbles escape and erupts into the air.
